Concept

Coffee brings people together.
We call that one cup “tumugu” — to weave.

TUMUGU COFFEE is a house-roasting specialty coffee shop in Beppu, Oita, Japan. We run two shops: STAND, right by Beppu Station, and ROASTERY, a roastery café in Yumigahama. More than just serving coffee, we build places where locals, students and travelers gather around the same cup — and conversations begin.

STAND, an easy stop by the station, and ROASTERY, where we face our beans seriously. Two places, each rooted in the town in its own way, weaving everyday life together like a single thread.

Our Story

A shop that keeps weaving,
beyond “graduation.”

TUMUGU COFFEE began with a single cup in Beppu, after its founder left Tokyo at eighteen. “Weaving people together through coffee” — that idea has changed shape, from a mobile coffee cart to STAND and then ROASTERY, and it continues today.

Because the shop was started by a student, it is built not to depend on one founder, but to be passed on to the next generation. A place where APU students and locals mix, and where you can trace a cup back to the people who grew it. That is what we aim to be.
